House Blessing in the Philippines
July 28, 2008 on 3:21 am | In Uncategorized |On our last visit to the Philipines in February of 2008 we decided to have the house blessing at our new house in Laguna. For those of you who have not experienced a house blessing it is one of the most interesting filipino and Catholic traditions. It consists of a priest walking throughout the house blessing everything in sight including the furnitiure. He also blesses an offering of coins, flower petals, and candy which is strewn from room to room by the owner. Invited guests, especially the children then retrieve the candy and coins to keep. There is usually a roasted pig involved (lechon) and plenty of other food as is the case in all filipino celebrations. Click the link below to see some pictures of our house blessing.

Thanks for commenting on my post regarding cancer, biopsy, and recovery. I agree with you that we (the World, for that matter) often misdirects the resources that could be used to defeat cancer. I have lost so many friends to cancer in the past five years. I thought it would be conquered by the time I reached old age, but now looks like it will be with us for a long, long time. p.s. I love the Philippines and the people, having visited there several times with he Navy. Particularly enjoyed Baguio during the heat of the summer months. Best of luck on your pending move.

Hi Doug
I think we are in agreement on funding and misdirection of resources. Hopefully the new administration in the US will adress this issue. As far as the Philipppines I hope you can tell that I love the Philippines too. One time I stayed in the Hyatt in Baguio and a short time later it collapsed in an earthquake. Where was you stationed in the Navy?
