Since my wife is a dual citizen and I have a permanent resident visa, I guess you know that you can't believe everything you hear. I can become a citizen in a couple of years, but registering every year for my residence is only like 300 pesos so I probably won't bother.

There are many reasons for or against a former Filipino reaquiring Philippine citizenship, but as you pointe dout, losing US citizebship is not one of them. Good that you got to the bottom of some of the rumors that continually spread.

You mentioned somehting else in the beginning of your article also which sounds a little 'off'. Your former Filipino spouse does _NOT_ have to reaquire Philippine citizenship in order to sponsor permanent residency. If your spouse _is_ a Philippine citizen, originally or "reaquired", then she, of course can come and live in the Philippines any time, and can spnsor you for a 13(a) permanent residency visa that covers you and any minor children.

But a former Filipino is entitled to hold a 13(g) permanent residency visa for her/himself and a legal spouse and children can be added to that visa, so Filipino citizen/former Filipino citizen makes no difference bis-a-vis permanent residency in the Philippines.

Get the info direct from the source, as you did you straighten this out ... it will save worry and hassle.

You are absolutely correct on this, Dan. There is no problem with losing your US citizenship by obtain dual citizenship in the Philippines.

I also had the same concerns as you did so I went to the US Embassy myself and got my answer straight from the consul himself. He assured me I wouldn't have to worry about losing my US citizenship. He did confirm what you have found out in the website you just mentioned.
