Wow, I never really knew you could have two citizenships. I always thought you could only have one citizenship for one country and a visa for another. Congrats on getting dual citizenships.

Hi Ofelia
Thanks for reading and commenting I'll try to answer your questions as best I can but suggest you contact a consulars office. You should work with the consulars office nearest you because you will have to travel for the swearing in. Being in Kentucky it may be either Atlanta or Washington DC. I believe your old Philippine Passport is a required document that you will have to copy and submit. As a dual citizen the Philippine embassy suggests you carry both your U.S. and Philippine passports. Concerning your 26 year old, as it was explained to me they would be eligible for dual citizenship, all you have to do is include them on your application for reacquisition. Again I am only giving you this information from my own experience and recommend you contact the consulars office. Try this website http://www.philippineembassy-usa.org/

I acquired my US citizenship via naturalization and have a 26 yrs. old, single and born in US, before my naturalization for US citizen, does it mean that she is automatically a dual citizen and don't have to do anything to be deemed as a Filipino citizen? Iwould like to apply for reacquisition of Filipino citizenship, can I submit my old phil. passport as one of the required document? or am I required to get a new one. Are US- Phil. dual citizens required to carry both passports? Any particular consulate office should I mail my application? I live in Kentucky.I am sure that your website had been and will always be of big help to alot of us with the same interests. Thank you very much.

Hi Ima
Yes you can apply for the Phil passport here in the States but I believe the passport still has to be processed in the Philippines and takes up to 2 months to get back and then you have to make a trip to the Consulates office and get the pictures and all. But in the meantime you are allowed to use your dual citizenship certificate as a Phil passport. So if you are going there anyway it may be quicker to obtain the passport while in the Philippines. As far as how long for dual citizenship, I've heard as little as a couple weeks in some cases and a couple months in others depending on where you apply.

i know you can apply for a phil. passport here in the u.s.. i have emailed and inquired about it and i was informed that after you take the dual citizenship oath, you may apply for phil. passport here at the u.s. embassy.

i would like to know though if someone can give me any idea how long the wait is from dual citizenship application submission until the oathtaking. i'd appreciate any info about this. thanks!
